It's that time of the year again! As passionate cinephiles, we are ready to declare our film favourites for the most awaited
Zee Cine Awards 2023. Last year was truly an eventful one for the movie industry. With movies making their way back into the theatres after the lull of the pandemic, the grandeur quotient was amped-up to provide a spectacle for the complete movie experience. The visual treat had been backed-up by powerful performances resulting in a veritable dream year for the film lover in us.
The year had a lot to offer to all the movie-goers, and there is no doubt about that. Whether it was to cheer their favourite stars or enjoy their favourite numbers, get startled out of their seats, or understand the history and experience the magical medium, the year had something for everyone. The films spanned a diverse mix of subjects across multiple genres. We saw our favourite stars in newer dimensions with cutting-edge technology taking action and fantasy sequences to another level. Hence, the Zee nominations for this year’s Zee Cine Awards is a pure reflection of a diverse mix of history, biography, fantasy, thriller, and comedy films.
At one end of the spectrum films like ‘Drishyam 2’ and ‘Vikram Vedha’ kept the audiences at the edge of their seats with intense drama, gripping sequences, and interesting plots. On the other end, films like ‘Bhediya’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ provided the perfect stress busters, regaling audiences with their rib-tickling comedy and keeping them hooked to its thriller elements. The most anticipated film of the year, ‘Brahmastra: Part One–Shiva’ created a big buzz even before it hit the theatres. This experimental genre, with its high-budget grandeur, had everyone glued to the screens with its larger-than-life settings and amazing VFX. It once again brought alive the magic of cinema and is set to create its multiverse in the coming years.
The Zee Cine Awards recognizes all this and more. Apart from the above films that provided a heavy dose of entertainment, the year also saw films that went beyond and exposed the audience to historical struggles and pains of oppression. These periodic movies showed us heroic efforts of getting accepted in an unequal society and beautifully captured the life and times of the era. Films such as ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, ‘The Kashmir Files’ and ‘Badhaai Do’ tugged at our heartstrings, and moved us to tears with their authentic portrayals shedding light on issues that we often wouldn't talk about.
